The Ironwood Area School District is committed to providing quality special education programming and services. Ironwood administration and teachers work with families, the Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District (GOISD), and outside agencies to individualize students' programs, enabling them to make progress in their grade-level curriculum in their least restrictive environment.
Ironwood Area School District Programs
Elementary: Our elementary department has four resource rooms to service our K-6 students. A resource room is designed for students who need support in the general education curriculum. The four elementary resource room assignments for the 2018-2019 school year are divided by the following grade levels and need: grades K-2, grades 3-4, grades 5-6, and a resource room that meets the needs of K-6 students who benefit from highly structured, positive behavior supports. In addition, GO-ISD therapists and a school social worker support these programs.
Middle School: Our middle school program offers a combination of resource rooms and teaming with general education teachers. This is done to allow for the greatest number of options in programming for the diverse needs of students. In addition GO-ISD therapists and a school social worker support these programs.
High School: Our high school program operates a combination of resource rooms and teaming with general education teachers. The focus is to help students with skill development, high school graduation, and transition to the world beyond high school. ISD therapists and a school social worker support these programs.

Evaluations
Over one hundred of the already eligible Ironwood students require a review every three years to determine if they are in need of comprehensive, multi-disciplinary re-evaluation. The GO-ISD diagnostic staff and Ironwood special education teachers conduct re-evaluations in addition to evaluating students who are initially referred for special education services.
